NFL Gameday 2005

EA Sports' celebrated soccer series returns to the hardy PlayStation for the 11th time in this "2005" edition. This year's game has been revamped with new rules, squads, leagues, crests, and kits, all based on the current (2004-2005) season. Players can create their own custom players and teams, and lead them to victory against the best in the world. The game features the MLS, nearly a dozen of Europe's top teams, and over 250 other clubs and national sides containing 6,000 real-life players.

The two teams line up seven per side. It's a typical first and 30 on the initial play from scrimmage. The quarterback snaps the ball only to be pummeled well after the play is over. But there's no flag on the field -- he doesn't even expect one. Why would he when there's no men in zebra-striped shirts (referees) anywhere near the playing field? It's just another day on the gridiron with NFL Blitz 2000. Continuing Midway's popular NFL Blitz franchise, this sophomore effort features all of the original's mayhem -- and then some. The unique elements that distinguished the original from "realistic" football games remain intact: fewer players (each with superhuman potential), a faster pace, tougher first down requirements, and bone-crushing, less-than-sportsmanlike (can you say "understatement"?) hits, just to name a few

Konami's first football game on PlayStation features over 1,500 motion-captured players with ratings based on the 1995 season, 30 NFL teams, and moves that include high steps, speed bursts, and spins. Four camera angles let you view the action from the sidelines, high above the stadium, diagonally, or directly behind the activated player. The camera can also be manually zoomed to put you closer to the action. Play one game against the computer or a friend, or go directly to the playoffs (there is no season mode in NFL Full Contact). The opponents you'll face during the playoffs are randomly determined.
